Resources about Teens

Through the generosity of the Orfalea Foundations, the Santa Barbara Public Library System now subscribes to two research periodicals that assist teen service providers in refining and improving their work with teens in our community. Both resources are available in print at the Central Library and online at all of the Santa Barbara Public Library System Branch Libraries.

Youth Today is an independent, monthly national trade periodical for professional youth workers and administrators of youth-serving agencies, and researchers and public policy staff who work on youth issues. It covers the business of starting, operating and evaluating programs in areas such as juvenile justice, foster care, mentoring, substance abuse, sexual behavior, after school, youth employment and overall youth development.

New Directions for Youth Development: Theory, Practice, and Research is a quarterly publication focusing on contemporary issues challenging the field of youth development. The journal is dedicated to bringing together everyone concerned with helping young people, including scholars, practitioners, and people from different disciplines and professions. The result is a unique resource presenting thoughtful, multi-faceted approaches to helping our youth develop into responsible, stable, well-rounded citizens.

The most current print issue of each title is only available at the Central Library and is not available for checkout.  Back issues will be available for check out and are located in the Central Library Teen Corner.

The online version of New Directions for Youth Development can be accessed from any Santa Barbara Public Library System computers or any personal laptop connected to the Wi-Fi connection.

Youth Today online access is available with assistance from Library staff.
