Book: Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Slaughterhouse Five had a unique plot that compelled me to read more and more. It's about a fictions man fighting in World War Two who can time travel and re-live different points of his life and his experience of being abducted by aliens. This novel has great philosophies about life's experiences. The blend of historical fiction and sci-fi is great for readers who enjoy something new and "outside of the box".
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
This book is for mature readers, and there is some explicit content. Also, the events are not in chronological order, so it might be a bit frustrating if you're not used to that.

Book: True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi
This book is about a girl who boards the ship The Seahawk, expecting to get to Providence, her hometown, with two other families. She is shocked to find out that she will be sailing alone with the crew and a civilized captain which she can relate to coming from a proper family herself. When she realizes the captain is a cruel man by killing two men: a stowaway and her friend the cook, all because of her telling about the crew's round robin (a plan to strike against the captain) she decides to join the crew in order to gain the crew's trust again. Its a very suspenseful and adventurous book.

Book: The Giver by Lois Lowry
This book is about a boy named Jonas. In his world, everything had been the same, there were no such things as colors or differences between people, but that changed when he was 12, and he was selected to be the receiver of memory. He was to have all the terrible and different memories. This book is very confusing and thought provoking.

Book: Everworld: Entertain the End by Katherine Applegate
Entertain the end is the last book in the epic series Everworld. I never expected it to end the way it would. I was expecting something TOTALLY different. But, the author wrote it this way.

Book: Brian’s Winter by Gary Paulsen
If you've read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and you like it, than you'll definitely love His sequel Brian's Winter. This book has even more action, suspense, and this time Brian faces even harder challenges, like the dreadful winter in Canada and taking down a moose. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves surviving-in-the-wilderness stories and lots of adventure!
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
You don't really need to know that much except I recommend you read Hatchet before reading this book.

Book: Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
This is a book that shows you that you should appreciate what you have. In this book the world is coming to an end. It also explains the importance of family. Don’t forget that you need them to help you survive.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
Well you need to be expected to have a big cry. I know I as just reading it allowed and my mom started to cry. I didn’t know why at first but then I reread the pages and I almost started to cry too.

Book: The Companion’s Quartet: Secret of the Sirens by Julia Golding
Secret of the Sirens is great. It is about a girl, Connie, who moves in with her aunt. She finds out that her aunt is part of a mysterious society of magical creatures. All the members of the society are companions to a type of mythical creature which means they can speak to that species. Connie is special; she is a companion to all mythical creatures which makes her a universal, the first one in centuries. An evil shape-shifter called Kullervo is trying to destroy humankind. Connie is the only one who can save humanity.
