Book: Eldest by Paolini
Great book for those that love adventure and fantasy. In this book, Eragon and Saphira's adventures take them to Ellesmera, home of the elves, where they are both tutored by an older Rider and his mutilated dragon, Glaedr. Roran reappears in this book, as well as the witch Angela, the female elf Arya, and several dwarfs from the first book. More dragon history comes to light, as well as elf, Rider, and dwarf. This book is slightly darker than the first, but will leave you excited for the third book, Brisngr.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
You need to have read Eragon, also by Christopher Paolini, and understood and/or liked it.

Book: Al Capone by Yancey
"Al Capone" is a biography about a famous gangster in the Depression. The book talks about his childhood, job, and family without getting too violent. After reading this book, you can see that Capone wasn't all bad or all good. This book explains the time period and people so you don't get confused.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
Something to remember is that gangsters were different along time ago then they are now. Another surprising and important fact the book mentions is that joining a gang for Italians wasn't all that rare.

Book: The Foreshadowing by Sedgwick
The book really interesting and gave the reader a closer look at the life of a nurse during World War I. The main character's "curse" was an interesting part of the story that really grabbed attention and built the conflict. I really enjoyed reading this book especially because it brought a new perspective to nursing for the military; something I would like to do.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
It is hardly a gore filled book and it keeps you reading :)

Book: Never Deal with a Dragon by Charrette
I think it's interesting how a man raised in Japan and to see magic as a fairy tale, was thrust into the world of magic and secrecy. He gets caught up in an underground world of shadow runners becoming part of an illegal society.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
It follows a few different people but has one main focus. His sister has turned into a troll due to the magic and his main reason for doing anything is to find her.

Book: The View from Sunday by Konigsburg
This is a very good book, and despite its being written for children, it is so clever and deep that I'm sure even adults would enjoy it. The story is about four 6th graders who call themselves The Souls. They compete together in an Academic Bowl in which they must answer interesting questions such as "What is the meaning of the word calligraphy and from what language does it derive?" The reader gains insight into each of The Souls' lives as the author illustrates how each of them came to know the answers to the questions.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
The humor is rather matter of fact, so if you don't like that sort of thing, you might not like the book. Otherwise, I think most of what you need to know is eventually explained in the story. You just have to be patient! Trust me, it's worth it.

Book: The Sea of Trolls by Farmer
This book is set in a period around 400 A.D. It tells about a boy named Jack, who is trained by the local Bard in small magic. Shortly after the Bard loses his wits when he is attacked by a Nightmare, sent by the evil Queen Frith Half-Troll, Jack and his young sister Lucy are captured by Northmen Berserkers, or Vikings. Then Jack goes on a quest to find Mirmir's Well to save Lucy from the queen.
This book is very well written, and the author perfectly describes the Old Gods of the Northmen and their legends.
What does your friend need to know in order to read this book?
All you need is a local Library and a library card.
