Support Your Library
:: Donations & Gifts
The Santa Barbara Public Library System welcomes private gifts and donations towards the continued excellence of the Library. Gifts to the Library may be made in a variety of ways including cash, stocks, personal bequests, and in-kind goods and services. The IRS considers all donations as tax-deductible gifts to a municipal non-profit organization.
Monetary gifts may be unrestricted and used where the need is greatest, or may be designated for a specific branch library, subject area or other purpose. Gifts may be made in memory of friends or relatives, to honor the living, or in commemoration of special events. Purchases of collection materials made with gift funds will be gift-plated upon request.
Books, audiotapes, videotapes, CDs, DVDs, music scores and magazines are also welcomed, either to be added to the Library collections or to be offered for sale to the public with proceeds used for materials purchase. Gift materials are evaluated by professional staff using the same criteria established for materials purchased with public funds in determining whether items are to be added to the collection. If you are considering a sizable donation of material to a branch Library, please contact the Library in advance to make sure that space is available.
Planned gifts may offer benefit options to you and your family as well as to the Library. You may wish to consult an attorney, accountant, or financial planner to assist with details of establishing such a gift.
All gifts and donations become the property of the Santa Barbara Public Library System, and the Library retains the right to determine use, access and disposition of all materials.
All offers of potential additions to the collections, goods, services and cash are greatly appreciated and help to enhance the resources of local Libraries.
