Get a Library Card

When filling out the form, please include your city or county work phone and/or your work email address.

Send your completed application via interdepartmental mail to VIP Service-Santa Barbara Public Library, and we will mail your new card to your home address. Or, to obtain your card directly, take your completed application along with a picture ID and address verification to any library branch.

Adult Cards

  • To receive an adult card you must be 18 years of age or older and have valid primary identification and proof of your current mailing address.

  • With valid primary ID, a borrower’s card with full privileges will be issued to you immediately.

  • If you do not have valid primary ID, and/or verification of your current mailing address, you may check out two items in the interim, and the library will mail the card to you as a form of verification.

  • Once you receive your library card in the mail, you have full Library privileges.

While using services of the Santa Barbara Public Library System please be aware of these regulations:

  • You are responsible for all materials checked out on your card, and for all charges and fees made to your account;

  • An extended loan fee will be charged for material returned past the due date;

  • In order to prevent improper use, Library staff should be notified immediately if your card is lost or stolen;

  • Library staff should be notified promptly of change of name or address;

  • Library cards are not transferable.
