More Information
What is Día?
Día is a celebration of children and books. It culminates in celebrations each year on April 30 and emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Its goals are to honor children, languages and cultures, to encourage reading and literacy, and to promote library collections and programs that reflect our plurality.
Why is the library celebrating Día?
Encouraging literacy is an integral part of the library’s mission and is built into our programming. The Santa Barbara Public Library System values and embraces the youth of our diverse community and wants to join in the Dia celebration. In the past we have celebrated Dia through author visits and special programs and wish to continue expanding this concept each year.
How is the library celebrating Dia?
On April 25th from 11am-3pm, the library will partner with the Junior League of Santa Barbara to bring a special festival to the Central Public Library. The event will feature a variety of arts and crafts, storytelling, dancing groups, and other activities celebrating literacy and diversity. All members of our community are invited to join this celebration!
Will the event be fun?
Of course it will! Check out some pictures from our Halloween/Dia De Los Muertos celebration!
