Bookmobile Mission Statement:

The mission of the Santa Barbara Public Library System Bookmobile is to provide information services, reading materials and educational resources to residents who are unable to use our other libraries due to geographic, transportation, economic or other barriers. In fulfilling this mission, the primary functions of the bookmobile are:

• To promote literacy and a lifelong desire to read
• Present children’s programs and storytelling
• Introduce readers to library services
• Generate a positive image of the library by being highly visible to the entire community

Facilities:

The Bookmobile reflects the latest in bookmobile manufacturing technology, featuring a bright, spacious, and welcoming interior, with remote on-line computing capability and a book capacity of 3,500 volumes.  The Bookmobile is wheelchair accessible.

Collection:
 
The Santa Barbara Bookmobile carries a wide selection of materials that are geared towards the interests of all age groups.  Our collection includes: children’s picture books of fiction and non-fiction, teen fiction and non-fiction, adult bestsellers, paperbacks, large-type books, magazines, books on CD, DVDs and music CDs.  We also carry books and magazines in Spanish.

Placing Requests:

Items that are not found on the Bookmobile can be requested from any other Branch Library and delivered onto the Bookmobile.  Requests can be placed in person, by computer, or by telephone. 

To Place a Request by computer, please visit the website at www.sbplibrary.org for access to the library catalog and for further instructions.  To place a request by phone, please call (805) 964-7878. 

Once the item becomes available, you will be notified by phone, email or mail that we have your item on the Bookmobile and that it is ready for pick-up.

Circulation Policies and Procedures:

All items except for DVDs and videos may be kept for three weeks, or until the next return visit of the bookmobile to that stop. DVDs and videos have a loan period of one week.

Items may be returned to the Bookmobile or any of the libraries in the Santa Barbara Public Library System.

Most items can be renewed up to six times.  Renewals can be done in person, by phone  (805) 964-7878, or by accessing your patron record on the library’s website: www.sbplibrary.org.

Library Cards:

The Santa Barbara Public Library card may be used on the Bookmobile or at any of the libraries in the Black Gold Library System.  You may apply for a card in person.  Please bring a photo identification and verification of mailing address. 

If you lose your library card, you may receive another one for the price of $1.
